Locke Family History

  • After graduating in Civil Engineering at the University of Manitoba in 1948, my father, Edmund Locke, began working for Defence Construction Canada. While there he was Project Engineer on some of DEW line Radar Stations across Canada.
  • In 1952, he began his career at CMHC and our family lived in Ottawa from 1963-1968 where my father was Chief Engineer for CMHC. In 1969, after a year of French Immersion in Quebec City, our family moved to Toronto where my father, partnering with the Imperial Group out of Winnipeg (Don Gales), became a real estate developer. His company was York Imperial Developments and they built high-rise condominiums as well as town housing in the Greater Toronto Area.
  • In 1978, he became the President of The Ontario New Home Warranty Program (now Tarion) until he retired in the late 1980’s. I went into this business because I always loved to be around his job sites, loved to build things as a kid and of course, due to the tremendously positive influences of my father. He loved the building business and so do I - it is a great business!
  • I was so very fortunate to have my father as my mentor, confidant and best friend; he was also a great Dad. His good sense and advice have both helped me immensely throughout my construction career.
